A handbag crocheted in a soft grey raffia, trimmed back and front with a panel for of pretty handmade flowers and finished with rectangular wooden handles.

This simple cocoon shaped handbag is unlined and crocheted and shaped in one piece from grey dyed raffia. There are panels of pretty handmade raffia flowers on either side. I see this as an elegant but informal and out of the ordinary handbag. Just right for those occasions when one is expected to look smart, but not too formal or conventional... school prize givings spring to mind.

Natural paper raffia is an eco friendly bio degradable and recyclable organic material made from natural plant fibres. It is surprisingly strong, yet very lightweight, ideal for bag making. The bags are durable and easy to maintain. As long as not allowed to soak, they will happily endure a gentle wash, swished in warm soapy water, then patted dry with a towel.
